Speaker Cabinet Coating – Acoust-X Sound Damping Coating
Acoust-X is a premium, high-build, low-density sound-damping coating designed explicitly for speaker cabinet interiors. It significantly reduces unwanted resonance, vibrations, and sound reflections, delivering more precise and accurate sound. Whether you’re assembling a professional speaker cabinet or looking to minimize vibrations between car audio panels, Acoust-X offers exceptional vibration damping for superior acoustic performance.
Its heavy-bodied, creamy formula is easy to apply and dries quickly. As a water-based coating, it provides an environmentally friendly option for reducing noise and vibration without the harsh chemicals in other coatings. Acoust-X focuses on sound damping rather than soundproofing, making it ideal for managing internal acoustics.
Application Instructions:
Before applying Acoust-X, ensure the surface is clean and dry. For optimal sound damping, apply two moderately thick layers, allowing each layer to dry thoroughly. A stippled texture makes sound-damping properties more than a smooth surface, so please don’t worry about making the finish too smooth.
- Brush Application: Apply a thick coat, approximately three times heavier than typical paint. Dab the brush into the wet material to create a rough texture that maximizes vibration reduction. Once the first coat is dry, apply a second coat if necessary.
- Roller Application: Create a thick, textured layer with a 3/4″ or 1-1/4″ nap roller. A rougher surface improves acoustic damping. After the first coat has dried, apply a second coat if needed.
- Hopper Gun Application: For spray applications, use a large orifice in the hopper gun and allow the Acoust-X to spatter inside the cabinet. A rougher finish enhances vibration damping and sound absorption.
Coverage:
Acoust-X covers approximately 50 to 75 square feet per gallon. At 50 square feet per gallon, you’ll get a soft, flexible layer of 23 dry mils, providing effective vibration damping and improved acoustic performance.
Compared to other sound-damping coatings, Acoust-X stands out for its superior performance in reducing unwanted noise and vibration. Ideal for speaker cabinets, car audio systems, and more, it ensures enhanced clarity and minimized distortion in any acoustic environment.

I use Acoust-X inside all my line array designs. I get much flatter response and greater gain before feedback because I have much less acoustic transmission from the back and the sides of the cabinets. this is a really great product and I can’t imagine building a speaker without it!
