Great Product
I’ve wrapped cabs with tolex, leather, and even tweed. This product is just as awesome as the other reviews indicate.
Keep in mind I’m comparing this to a professional Line-X shop that I would typically take my cabs to. They used to spray a good medium coats for about $75 each cab. That price has risen a lot in the last 5 years so I was looking for an alternative without all the mess and hassle of wrapping a cab.
This product is amazing. Extremely forgiving in all aspects. I was able to learn very quickly how the product works best. If you don’t put enough product on, it dries with a very rough texture and doesn’t flow out very well…but to just go right over the top with another coat and try again, was awesome.
I also enjoyed the water based part of the product and did everything in our kitchen. I worked slow as to not sling the product all over the place. The clean up was a breeze with just some hot water in the sink. Carefully wrung out the roller with a couple paper towels and set aside until I could move the cabs, then started again.
If you’re trying to determine if this is what you want, just buy it. It will work very well for you. As far as coverage I did 2 medium coats on about 24 square feet and have about 1/3 of the quart can left. I hope this helps.
The only regret I have is NOT buying a gallon of it – I have other plans for this as well, not just cabs.
You helped me create the product I wanted and came in at a cost that helped me be profitable
You helped me create the product I wanted and came in at a cost that helped me be profitable in the market. You are great!
A gift from the heavens
I’ve tried every textured paint available for roll-on and skeptical investing just to failing like all the others!!!!! This company got it rite and this is the ONE!!!!!!
Great Finish
Acry-Tech coatings are excellent for install and mobile cabinets. We use it on unprimed Baltic birch cabinets.
Very tough and looks as good as any commercial speaker company can do. The large texture rollers are good used for second coat.-First coat should be with a non textured roller. Standard paint brush or smaller roller for hard to reach spots. This product is non toxic low vapor- does not require a paint booth or exhaust system.
The Best Solution for Durable Speaker Enclosure Finishing
This is my second gallon of the DuraTex. Far easier to apply than Tolex, much more durable, and on the rare occasion that damage occurs, it’s far easier to repair. I wouldn’t think of using anything else to cover speaker enclosures, amps, or any other musical equipment that must be moved.
Excellent product. Makes cabinets look great.
DuraTex is the best one part cabinet coating I have used to date. I have coated unfinished cabinets and pre-painted cabinets with it. All cabinets that I have painted with DuraTex have looked great and hold up well. I have a full year of weekly use on my cabinets and they still look great. I will continue to use this product.
Our warehouse is now 15 degrees cooler since we applied the SolarX paint to the roof.
Our warehouse is now 15 degrees cooler since we applied the SolarX paint to the roof. Our A/C units now cycle throughout the day, where they used to just run continuously and still lose the battle to rising interior temps. The product works great!!
Thank you for the excellent service and consultation you provided for our Facilities Improvement Project
Thank you for the excellent service and consultation you provided for our Facilities Improvement Project. The paint you provided is superior to what we have used in the past and we appreciate your service.
Easy to work with, terrific results.
Easy to work with, terrific results. Low odor. Covers more than expected. Bought the gallon but could have gotten away with a quart, and that was for 2 x 18” sub cabinets.
Great industrial coating with not a lot of effort!
I bought a quart of this for my Dayton Ultimax 18” build. Very thick and goes on like a dream. There is an enclosed roller to get the “rough and tumble” effect, but I would still advise to paint on the DuraTex with a good paint brush first. Brush in the same direction as it will ultimately look more uniform. Then go over the fresh paint lightly with the roller to the desired effect. Really easy to do one side at a time and blend into the next side if needed. I saved the bottom for last. Also, if you are installing feet/spikes, pre drill holes first, then paint, then install the hex mounts for the feet. I did two coats on all sides except the front. I gave three. I still have about 1/4 of the can left. Always nice to have extra for touch ups. One word of advice…make sure your sanding is next to perfect if not perfect. This stuff will not hide as much as you think. I have one small area on the back I thought was good enough…yeah right. Remember, perfection takes time. Happy Building!
Your professionalism and ability to communicate with our customers on their level is truly a great asset to your firm
Thanks for helping us rescue a large source of revenue we were in danger of losing. You helped us show our customer the products they really needed, which we could distribute to them from you. You saved us at least $375,000 in sales that could have been lost this year alone! Your professionalism and ability to communicate with our customers on their level is truly a great asset to your firm. You have a vast knowledge of the challenges and problems that my customers face daily. I’ve NEVER dealt with a paint manufacturer with more knowledge or higher level of service than you supply.
Lays down and dries fast
Not a big reviewer but wanted to give a couple of quick positives on the Acry-Tech Coating. I’m the owner of a small car audio shop and needed to give my boxes a professional looking cover when vinyl or carpeting wouldn’t be a good option. I Was spending quite a bit on rattle can style bed liner paint with inadequate results. I purchased the coating in the spray grade but have had great results using it with my sprayer or roller. It covers quickly and provides a very durable finish. On top of that, it dries quite a bit quicker than the rattle cans it replaced. The only time I couldn’t get it to lay down smooth is when I had areas that required a brush to reach but in the future, I’ll just spray those areas. It’s hard to find a paint that will work on MDF but I think I’ve found the solution.
We didn't lose even one shingle during the 36 hours of Hurricane force winds
We didn’t lose even one shingle during the 36 hours of Hurricane force winds thanks to the Storm Proof Acry-Tech Coatings we applied to our roofs here in Spanish Wells, Bahamas.
The cellar, which would have been very wet, is completely dry.
We applied Soft Tread to the Baltimore Lighthouse to seal the upper concrete walkway. I got a call from one of the other keepers who is onboard, it’s been raining and blowing 25 kts all day. He says the cellar, which would have been very wet, is completely dry. The Soft Tread has fully sealed our deck.
Thanks for the great work and for going the extra mile for us in demonstrating your products and training our personnel
Thanks for the great work and for going the extra mile for us in demonstrating your products and training our personnel in the methods of application. We decided to switch from solvent paints a few years ago and with your help it was a smart move. We tested several national brand paints and found that yours was competitively priced while giving us the exact results we were looking for.
I would like to tell you and your company that your product is amazing.
This was my first speaker cabinet project. I had come across your website thru a link on Bill Fitzmaurice’s speaker building plans. I would like to tell you and your company that your product is amazing. When the DuraTex was shipped to me, it was delivered in a timely manner and packaged very well. A week after delivery I finished my first Titan subwoofer enclosure. After sanding the exterior I started applying the DuraTex. I’ll be honest, I really think my 8 year old son could have done this. Using the textured roller it covered the cabinet in one application. No need to do a second coat with this product. After drying (which didn’t take long at all) I stepped back, was amazed and excited that I had completed a complicated project. My low end speaker cabinets look like they were built from a high end manufacturer. I will tell you I saved a lot of money. Your product is very durable also. I do sound for bands and I DJ. I’ve probably used them 20 times since they were made. There is not the first sign of peeling, cracking or scratches. Many people have asked about the speakers and the coating and I have referred them to your product. I have some plans to build my Main cabinets and I will definitely use DuraTex Speaker Coating for that project also. Thank you
This speaker coating is the bomb!
Gentlemen, Shelling out dough for a gallon of an “unknown product” is always a bit of a risk. Then putting said “unknown product” on a speaker bottom I spent long hours building ups the ante. This is one time I am glad I gambled. This speaker coating is the bomb! Application was a breeze and the coverage surprised me. That gallon will cover this cabinet and the next one I build too. If it is as tough as it was easy to use, this stuff will be a dream come true!!! I’ll let you know. In the meantime, you have a repeat customer here. Click here to see my cabs
Awesome
I’ve been looking for something like this for years. So far I’ve done just one amp rack with it , but it turned out awesome. Very easy to apply with a texture roller. Need to make sure your cabinet is pretty smooth, but not perfect as this stuff will hide minor imperfections. I applied 3 coats and it looks great. Will definitely be using this in the future. Depending on the roller you use, you can go from a relatively smooth light texture to a very heavy one.
Superb!
I bought this to finish a Denvo knock down sub enclosure. After sanding the MDF, priming with an interior/exterior latex paint, then rolling on two coats. I’m tickled pink. Truly professional looking finish, and easy to apply. This first attempt with it turned out much better than I expected, and I’ll be using what I learned to make the next project with DuraTex immaculate. Priming is highly recommended (by me, anyway). I thought one coat would suffice after priming, but found two worth the small additional time and effort to yield a perfect finish.
They stop water better and last longer than any I had been using.
I had been using several different elastomeric coatings in an effort to provide my customers a quality job, and I put down extra millage too so I’d have extra protection. I thought I was doing the best I could until I found your products. They stop water better and last longer than any I had been using. And, I’m saving money with your products, too.
DON'T TREAD ON ME!!!
I think that this is about the best industrial strength coating for cabinets on the market today!!! You won’t be disappointed but you will be impressed! At this price, you can not beat it! Best price yet!! Cheers and Happy New Year!!!
Your LOW VOC paints have been nothing short of a miracle.
As a sales rep to large industrial facilities, I really appreciate the support and backup you give me. Your LOW VOC paints have been nothing short of a miracle for me and are serving my customers with the quality they demand at a price they love.
DuraTex "IS" the right stuff!
I researched alternative speaker cabinet coatings until nearly losing my mind. Everything I read lead me your product, so I took a chance. WOW!!! No kidding, I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. DuraTex “IS” the right stuff! Keep up the good work. Great product. I’ll be back for more.
The result was really quite spectacular and the adhesive compound is very easy and fun to work with.
I refurb’d a couple of old Yamaha PA Wedge / Monitors that were really quite beat up. The DuraTex coating looked so much like pudding that I was tempted to eat it, but I decided to put it on the speaker boxes instead. I did 3 coats of the roller grade stuff and the textured finished look was really quite professional. The result was really quite spectacular and the adhesive compound is very easy and fun to work with. Thanks for making such a great product!!
It surpassed my expectations as it cut my electric bill in half!
Your CeramaX coating is really effective in slowing heat buildup in Michigan. I applied it to my shingle roof to try to reduce the heat in my attic. It surpassed my expectations as it cut my electric bill in half! This June I used only 464 KWH versus last June when I used 883 KWH. And this June was hotter than last year. THANKS!
It's the best thing I’ve ever seen on the market.
I was completely amazed at the results you accomplished by refinishing the 2 Klipsch speakers and the Fender Rhodes Keyboard housing. The difference is night and day! I was really impressed with the beauty and the protection provided by the DuraTex coating and I’m ready to refinish a number of the speaker cabs we have in inventory for our rental fleet. The DuraTex gives a beautiful, durable finish that is like factory-new. I will highly recommend this product to our Pro Audio customers for finishing or refinishing their cabs and road cases as it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen on the market.
they stand up so much better than any other brand I've ever used including big name national brands
I wanted to let you know that we are very happy with your roof paints. We’ve had no callbacks due to mildew, fungus mold or algae and the colors are NOT fading! I’m quite satisfied with your great roof paint products, they stand up so much better than any other brand I’ve ever used including big name national brands. Thanks for the great service and products. I especially like your Primer.
I just finished my project ... and wanted you to know how thrilled I am!
I just finished my project using DuraTex Speaker Cabinet Texture and wanted you to know how thrilled I am! I’ve been building cabinets and painting for 35 years and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had doing so… Thanks for creating such a unique and perfect product.
This stuff is amazing!
It is so freakin easy to get a beautiful finish with this stuff. A gallon goes a long way. I finished two 14cf subwoofer enclosures and didn’t even use half a gallon. Super durable, easy to use, beautiful results, I can’t recommend it enough.
This coating has proven itself to be almost bullet-proof
This is an addendum to a previously sent letter that you have posted on your site. I just wanted to comment on the longevity of your speaker cab coating. The original speakers I built quite a few years and many, many gigs ago, still look great. This coating has proven itself to be almost bullet-proof. I have continued and will continue using your products as they are a very sound investment.
Man I love this stuff.
This stuff is awesome! It’s tuff and durable, and looks like Tolex but with no seams. The white finish is pure class. It’s easy to apply, dries rapidly, and cleans up with water. It covers great too. It’s thick and viscous so it doesn’t drip much and I finished 4 large speaker boxes and 2 racks with less than half a gallon.
At first look it seems a bit expensive but compared to vinyl cloth or rhino liner, not paint, it’s a bargain.
You've given us great products and excellent service and field support, par none!
You’ve given us great products and excellent service and field support, par none! Your diligence in manufacturing and service has increased our sales and profits.
It was applied per your specs, and it performed beautifully.
You helped me find the perfect product. It was applied per your specs, and it performed beautifully. We had tried a national brand that claimed to be as good as yours, but it turned a putrid purple color in only 6 months. Our painter repaints his CBS home every couple of years. Next time he’s going to use your coating so he can eliminate that chore for probably ten years or more.
I am very fond of your products, which for every application I used them on, turned out to be better than expected.
I just want to share with you how I am happy with the Ceramax coating I put on my teardrop camping trailer.
The thing is great after 12,000 km and 1 winter. The plywood warped a bit during the winter which lead to it being looser in some spots but the coating bent and kept it all together and leak-free as it appears.
I am very fond of your products, which for every application I used them on, turned out to be better than expected. I really like the great return on the money spent. It’s rare these days to pay more for more quality… I feel that companies now have walked out of that path, for the more you spend, the more gadgets and quantity you get rather than quality.
Thanks, keep up the quality work.
Amazing results and quality
When it first arrived, I was skeptical about the size of this barrel (1 gallon) compared to the 48 x 24 x 30″ subwoofer cabinet I was planning on coating. Until the day I applied the DuraTex. WOW!!! I was amazing by how easy this stuff is to apply and work with. I used the recommend textured roller and I got professional results. And to my surprise, I was able to coat my subwoofer TWICE with a half gallon left! Totally recommend this.
Worked great covering my ported speaker box
I used this to paint my home theater ported 18” subwoofer enclosure.
This material is bullet proof once it completely dries. You would have to take a hammer to it to do damage! It looks good too!
I wish we had done this years ago.
Your CeramaX Heat Reflective Coating is amazing. We have a converted patio/den with a roll asphalt roof. In the day, when the sun hits the roof, the room becomes uncomfortably hot and stuffy. We tried fans and more windows but those efforts didn’t stop the heat radiating into the room from the ceiling. As soon as we put on the first coat of CeramaX, the room felt cool like the rest of our home. Even the ceiling feels cool to the touch. I wish we had done this years ago. Thank you.
The Best
I had some speakers that were on the road for 30 years they were all beat up. We sanded them down, shackled them in, did a quick sand and applied the product.
We applied two coats and the finish was great!!!! They look new!!
The best thing to ever happen to a cabinet.
This stuff is great. I painted the surface with a black primer and it covers in one coat. Add more coats and the texture deepens and it looks even better. The only thing I will ever use from now on.
Vinyl Alternative
Restoring a pair of Dahlquist DQ-10 loudspeakers & needed something to replace the old & scuffed up vinyl that was covering the back of the cabinets. I considered using Di-Noc & Tolex, but wanted something a little easier to apply. I watched a couple of videos of DuraTex on YouTube & it looked promising, so I decided to buy a quart and see how it worked. Long story short, this product is amazing! The videos simply do not do it justice. The finish is so much nicer looking in person, & it is so easy to use. Just dip the roller in the can & apply on the project. I settled on a smooth sponge roller, as I wanted less of a texture & more of a match to the vinyl wrap that it replaced. On both accounts DuraTex scored high. It is virtually an exact match for textured vinyl, and so much easier to apply. I cannot recommend this product highly enough. Take your time when applying, spread it out evenly, removing any air bubbles that are left behind, & use at least 2 coats. I waited about 10 – 15 minutes between coats. It doesn’t get any easier than that. Experiment with different rollers on some sample pieces until the desired texture & coverage is achieved. Be patient & you will be rewarded.
WOW, we used your product at our Plaza West Regional Health Center to provide safe footing for our elderly patients.
WOW, we used your product at our Plaza West Regional Health Center to provide safe footing for our elderly patients. We cleaned the VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile) with Spic n Span and didn’t remove the wax. The Safe Tread Clear stuck like crazy. We were able to open the room only an hour later and at 2 hours we had foot traffic on it with no problems. As a test, we scrubbed it with our automatic buffer/scrubber only 24 hours after application and it did NOT come up! It was amazing.
Pro DIY
My speakers never looked good with spray paint or other cheap products. But this good goo thick paint is life!!! Now all my cabs look like your tour grade speakers.
It's great to have a vendor that’s so responsive.

DuraTex Roller Grade
Product is great. I was redoing an old 70’s vintage Ampeg cabinet and was torn between paying to have it covered in tolex or sprayed. A one quart can of DuraTex and a couple of coats later it looks like it is brand new. I would highly recommend this product. It rolls on easy and clean up is a cinch. I will use DuraTex again on my next project.
I can't believe how great your product covers, hides and applies.
I can’t believe how great your product covers, hides and applies. I used less paint than I thought and the result was fantastic.
Tough!
This is good stuff! When you let it properly cure…it is very hard and durable when it dries. From now on I will use this on my boxes. I feel like for the amount of protection that it provides, it is a good value. Believe me that this little can is plenty. I was able to apply 2 good coats on a box that is 6 ft^3 external and still had some left in the can to finish up another small project. Just remember that…just like paint, the type of roller that is used makes all of the difference in the outcome (texture/finish) and amount used! Also, it dries quicker than I expected because of how thick it is. It is also easy to work with. But…just remember this. Do Not use this around anything that doesn’t need this stuff on it! Once it dries and hardens, it’s not coming off! So watch out for splatters from the roller.
So easy to apply
I just wanted to say that I recently got some copper/orange tinted DuraTex from you, and it’s a lot of fun to use! I made some big subwoofers in baltic birch plywood and didn’t want black or white or to fuss with trying to stain the birch. So easy to apply. A gallon goes a long way. I am coating other speakers in the same room with it, too, and I think some bland furniture in the room will soon be orange.
We would be happy to recommend you and the entire Acry-Tech organization to anyone needing your services and expertise
With the press of business, sometimes we lose sight of the importance of valued suppliers. That’s why I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the conscientious job you and your people have been doing for Insecta. You’ve not only impacted our bottom line favorably by cutting the cost of manufacturing, but your R&D capabilities have been extremely helpful. We would be happy to recommend you and the entire Acry-Tech organization to anyone needing your services and expertise.
