COATING APPLICATION & MAINTENANCE:

Click here for some important information: Soft Tread & Safe Tread Application Guide.

COATING APPLICATION:

Safe Tread can be applied to surfaces with temperatures between 50°F and 110°F. Application is not recommended when the surface temperature is below 50°F or is soon to fall below that temperature. Prepare surfaces by pressure washing and removal of all dirt, grease, loose paint, rust, efflorescence, or other contaminants. Etch new concrete after 30 days of curing, sand fiberglass, and prime bare metal or wood. All surfaces must be clean, dry, and “paint-ready” before application. All new treated wood must be seasoned or weathered for a minimum of 6 months before applying Safe Tread Anti-Slip Coating. Composite lumber must be rigorously pressure-washed before application and will require a special high-adhesion primer. Call us for more info about composite lumber applications.

Mask off the area to be coated to prevent overspray or to maintain clean edge detail. Check weather conditions to ensure rain or dew is not imminent before the product has a chance to dry thoroughly after application. Apply the product using a 3/8″ FOAM PRO open foam texture roller (available through Acry-Tech), a hopper gun, or a disposable foam brush. Apply a light first coat, allow the coating to tack, and then follow with a heavier full coat. Clean up spills and tools with water. Thin if necessary with clean water only.

COATING MAINTENANCE:

To clean the surface and maintain the beauty of Safe Tread, use general-purpose cleaners such as Tri-Sodium Phosphate (TSP), Laundry Detergent (Tide Powder is best!), Citrus Orange Cleaners, diluted commercial degreasers, Formula 409, Simple Green, or similar products. Dilute bleach or caustic cleaning solution can also be used sparingly. For best results, apply cleaner at the recommended dilution rate and scrub lightly with a stiff-bristle deck brush. Rinse thoroughly when cleaning is complete. Automatic scrubbers can also be used for large areas. With automatic scrubbing equipment, use light pad pressure only!
